There were no main religion in India, Old Deli. Muslims and Hindu's are the two religion that are always fighting aganist each other. In the book Clear light of Day the Hyder Alies family are Muslims and the Das family are Hindus. the Hyder Alies family who are the Muslims tolerate the Hindu family which are the Das family and viseversal. Although the two families tolerate each other the other families in the socity thinks that it is wrong to have Muslims as you friend. they would consider you has a trater to your religion which is Hindu. Raja is seen as a trater since he rather do Muslim practise than his family religion which is Hindu.

Anita Desai uses figurative languages in the novel Clear Light of Day. Figurative language is best use since you can say more than you mean or less than what you mean. you can say things more vividly and forcefully and figure, than you can by saying it directly. In clear light of day a figurative language use was when "Jaya was saying how Bimla is so stubborn but Tara was never stubborn". this phrass is in chapter four page one sixty two. This figurative language is saying what sahe ment but not in the ordinary way she would say it if Bim was there.

Clear light of day is also known for its literary devices. symbole is one of the most popular devices use in this book. There were alot of different symbols in the book like the rose walk which symbolize beauty and then decay since it was left uncared for. The well was also a symbole of death since the cow had died in it then there aunt Mira was thinking about it so much that she start having dreams about it. Another literary device use is conflict, all of the conflict that that are in the book mostly started with Raja. Raja and Bim had confict because he went away, tara and Bim had conflict because of Bim and raja relation, Raja and his friends had conflict because he's a Hindu but still like or tolerate Muslim when back in the old Deli Hindu's and Muslim's are suppose to be enemy.
